Season Starts With a Win!

On a baking hot cloudless day, three weeks after the scheduled start of the season, East Drayton finally found themselves eagerly awaiting the start of the game against Bilsthorpe and Clipstone.

As new captain Jaymie Duncan strode out to toss the coin we were full of anticipation at his tossing ability. This was never in doubt as he won and quite rightly put the opposition into bat.

This was to be a fantastic decision as new recruit Jamie Theaker and El presidente Guy Johnson had the away team in trouble from the get go. Between them bowling 15 miserly overs for 10 runs. Theaker ending with 2-10 from 8 and Johnson an astounding 3-0 from 7 overs.

It was now time for rabbit hunter Andy “Flower” Ogle and Dave “Chainsaw” Smith to take over. After a brief flurry of runs “Flower” ran threw the tail like rabbits in headlights finishing with 4-5 off 4 overs and Smith with the final remaining wicket.
It was then straight around with no tea taken and time for the new opening batting partnership to take centre stage as Pete “The Lambster" Lambert and Graham “The Hog" Whitfield striding confidently to the crease.

This confidence was well placed as they quickly went on their way to making inroads into this modest score. With a slow outfield the scoring for “The Hog" was unusually limited to 1s and 2s resulting in him sweating ham at one point.

At the other end the unflustered “Lambster" was being patient waiting for his moment to strike and he did so with an almighty drive back over the bowlers head. The only blip on the innings was an untimed sweep shot which was swallowed by square leg.

This did nothing for the away team as out came Dave “Cookie" Cook and with 2 lusty blows mastered the conclusion of the innings.

East Drayton winning in comfortable fashion claiming 20 points and Bilsthorpe and Clipstone 0.
