East Drayton Earn Winning Draw

East Drayton were on their travels this week to Anston in what turned out to be a thrilling game.

With overhead conditions suggesting bowling skipper Jaymie Duncan's tossing ability went astray and Drayton were asked to bat first.

Full of confidence from last week's heroics of chasing a mammoth 28 out strode Pete 'The Lambster' Lambert and Graham 'The Hog' Whitfield. Unfortunately this confidence was misplaced as the hog was soon back in the pavilion for and 2nd ball duck.

This did nothing to the Lambster's confidence as he went about dismantling the Anston bowling attack with ease. David 'Cookie' Cook at the other end hitting a few mighty blows of his own.

A big inside edge brought the end of Cookie and out came Andy 'Flower' Ogle. The Lambster and Flower played some nice shots rotating the strike with The Lambster looking deathly determined on the return to his favourite ground.

However Fower shouldering arms to a straight one ended the blooming partnership and next man in Jaymie Duncan went about building a big stand with the well settled Lambster.

With perfect timing and brute force these two built a monumental partnership of 111, at times making things look so easy and relaxed. With the Lambster playing his big booming drives and Duncan flicking threw midwicket the opposition didn't no what had hit them.

All the while Lambster closing in on the magical 3 figures.

However an inspired change of bowling brought the Lambsters fantastic innings of 98 to an end and somewhat dropped an anchor on the innings.

Duncan soon followed Lambster back to the pavilion with a well played 40. The next 10 overs were a flurry of quick wickets and not so quick runs as Ady Wrench and David 'Chainsaw' Smith crossed the line to get us to 200-9.

A well earned total.

The second half was not at all like the previous week with Anston putting up a resilient effort.

The new ball partnership of Guy Johnson and Jamie Theaker is definitely budding and once again had the opposition in plenty of trouble reducing them to 50-5 with 3 wickets for Johnson and 2 for Theaker.

With the change of bowling at both ends on came Flower and Chainsaw to see if they could carry on the pressure however this wasn't to be as Anston fought back and with the Drayton bowling struggling for fluency started to pile on the runs.

The ball disappearing to all four corners of the ground and with the weather worsening Drayton needed a wicket quickly and Cookie answered the call claiming the big hitting Shaw for 48.

With wickets falling very sporadically captain Duncan left no stone unturned in his quest for victory using 7 different bowlers with himself, Flower and Cookie all picking up a wicket a piece.

But in the end for all Draytons efforts anston held firm finishing on 166-8.

After a hard fought game Drayton taking the majority of the spoils with 17 points and Anston 9 points.
