Another Glorious Day East Drayton

On another glorious day East Drayton welcomed fellow strugglers Harthill to Whimpton Moor for what turned out to be a very one sided affair.

Skipper Duncan did his usual tossing duties but failed to finish and Harthill decided to bat.

With some of their players yet to arrive, Harthill started off very steadily and with Johnson and Theaker bowling tight lines after 4 overs were only on 4 runs. Theaker made the early breakthrough having a wide ball slashed ferociously at the young Cookie who pouched gracefully and Drayton where on the way...

With the ever reliable Johnson once again reeling off maiden after maiden, Theaker found another breakthrough and the second Harthill opener was on his way back to the shed. Johnson switched to around the wicket to the left hander and found instant success with a peach of a ball dislodging off stump.

This however brought to the crease the somewhat intoxicated Harthill regular opening batsman and from the off looked to play shots; taking Johnson for 23 in 3 overs and Theaker for 16 in the same. The only slight relief was Johnson having Harthills number 4 caught well at cover by skipper Duncan.

With the batsman looking comfortable Duncan felt it was time for a change from both ends with Flower replacing Johnson and Ady replacing Theaker.

Flower bowled a decent first over conceding 4 runs and then it was over to Ady who found instant success bowling the Harthill skipper.

With wickets running out, and the alcohol in his system running low, the Harthill batsman went after Flower hitting him through and then over midwicket for 4 and 6 respectively. This didn’t faze the cunning Flower, floating a wide one outside off stump and the batsman sending back the easiest of caught and bowled chances which Flower gleefully accepted!

The next over brought an abrupt end to proceedings with Ady claiming 3 wickets in 4 balls firstly with a glancing outside edge that stand in keeper Cookie Senior caught at the second attempt, then a sharply turning ball which was helped on its way onto the stumps and lastly the young number 10 offering up a simple chance to Theaker at mid off.

Harthill collapsing from 71-5 to 71 all out.

With only 22 overs being bowled and tea not ready the decision to go straight back out was quite a simple one.

With no Lambster this week Hoggy was like a lost piglet, he laid out all his ailments in an attempt to refrain from opening dutie! The skipper duly told him to man up and bring home the bacon. After some bravado he took to the crease with Cookie Senior to make sure there where no bumps in the road on the way to chasing this total.

With the opening bowlers from Harthill being on the young and inexperienced side there was plenty of scoring opportunities on offer and both batsman grabbed them with open arms.

Both batsman finding scoring easy with Cookie finding the boundary quite regularly and Hoggy hitting a 6 over midwicket the total was climbing quite fast.

With both batsman not wanting to give their wicket away Hoggy offered a very difficult chance to midwicket which the diving fielder couldn’t quite hold on to and hurt himself in the process.

With the wicket keeper giving extras for fun, after 8 overs only 3 runs were required and Hoggy and Cookie did it in singles to claim a well deserved 20 points and sending Harthill home with nothing.

Hoggy finishing 31 not out and Cookie 27 not out. Ady taking 4-4 off 1.4 overs the highlight of the bowling.
